Safer gambling

Last updated 25 September 2026

A bet on the football or an evening of bingo should be something you enjoy, paid for with money set aside for fun, like a cinema ticket. Every Betsuna account comes with tools that keep it that way, and they take seconds to switch on. Free help is available around the clock if you ever want to talk to someone.

Want to talk now? The National Gambling Helpline is free and confidential, 24 hours a day: 0808 8020 133.

Tools on your account

Deposit limits

Set a daily, weekly or monthly limit during registration or at any time afterwards. One limit covers sport, casino and bingo together. A lower limit takes effect immediately. Raising or removing a limit only happens after a 24-hour cooling-off period, and you confirm it again once that period ends.

Reality checks

A reminder appears at an interval you choose, from every 15 minutes to every hour, showing how long you have been playing and how the session stands. You can carry on, take a break or log out from the same screen.

Time-out

Take a break from 24 hours up to six weeks. During a time-out you cannot log in to play, and marketing stops. The account reopens by itself when the period ends.

Self-exclusion

For a longer break, self-exclude for six months or more. The account stays closed for the whole period, even if you ask us to reopen it, and we will not market to you. When the period ends you have to contact us and wait a further 24 hours before playing again.

GamStop

GamStop lets you exclude yourself from every online gambling site licensed in Great Britain in one step, for six months, one year or five years. Betsuna checks GamStop at registration and regularly afterwards.

Setting a budget that works

Most people who enjoy gambling for years have a simple routine. Here is the one we suggest:

  1. Decide the amount before you log in. Take it from spending money, never from rent, bills or savings.
  2. Set it as a deposit limit. That way the decision you made calmly still stands later in the evening.
  3. Pick a stopping time. A reality check at 30 or 60 minutes is a good nudge.
  4. Treat wins as a bonus, not a target. Withdraw a win you are happy with instead of playing it back.
  5. Keep it one part of your week. Plans with friends, sport and hobbies come first.

Built-in protections

  • Age checks before play. Nobody under 18 can deposit or play.
  • Slot stake limits. £5 per spin for players aged 25 and over, £2 per spin for players aged 18 to 24.
  • No credit cards. Gambling on credit is banned in Great Britain.
  • Financial risk checks. At certain levels of spending we may ask about your circumstances. This is part of our licence and is there to protect you.
  • Safer game design. Online slots have a minimum spin speed of 2.5 seconds, no autoplay, and no sounds or images celebrating a win smaller than your stake.
  • Bonus wagering capped at 10x. Offers stay simple and cannot require play across several products.

Tools that suit sports betting

Betting on sport has its own habits, so a few settings are worth knowing about. A deposit limit set weekly rather than daily fits a Saturday routine well, because it covers the whole weekend in one figure. In-play betting moves fast, and a reality check at 30 minutes during a match is a helpful pause. The bet history in your account shows every stake and return for the last twelve months, which makes it easy to see how the season is really going rather than relying on memory of the big wins.

For bingo, the same logic applies to ticket spend: pre-buying tickets for the evening's games in one go, within your limit, keeps the night relaxed and stops the next game from turning into one more.

How we look out for you

Our safer gambling team reviews account activity for patterns linked to harm, such as sessions getting much longer, deposits rising quickly or repeated cancelled withdrawals. When we see them, we get in touch to check everything is fine and to point you to the tools above. In some cases we may apply limits ourselves. These conversations are private and are never used for marketing.

Signs it may be time for a break

  • Spending more money or time than you planned, or chasing losses.
  • Borrowing, or using money meant for bills, to gamble.
  • Hiding how much you gamble from people close to you.
  • Feeling anxious, low or irritable when you are not gambling.
  • Gambling to escape problems or to feel better.

If any of these sound familiar, set a limit or take a time-out now, and consider a quick chat with one of the services below. It is free, and nobody will judge you.

If you are worried about someone else

Changes in mood, unexplained money problems or long periods online can be signs that gambling is causing harm to someone close to you. GamCare and GamAnon both offer advice for family and friends, including how to start the conversation. If the person has a Betsuna account and you believe they are at risk, you can tell our support team in confidence.

Protecting young people

If children use your devices, consider parental control software and keep your login details private. If you believe someone under 18 is using a Betsuna account, let our support team know and we will act immediately.
